May 2019 is ending - hello June

30 May 2019. Thurs. Not much happened today. The car ran smoothly and I parked closer in, since less people around right now, and more parking spaces. Normal lunch. Struggling to get my boss to get me a replacement I-Pad, which died 2 days ago. Deej went to the garden this afternoon and watered withering potatoes, struggling small pepper, and reported bean and corn seeds are sprouting. Asking Jim and Margo about places we are being offered to stay in Mussoorie.

29 May 2019.  Wed. Took the Dodge Diplomat in for oil change. The red oil light had been coming on and off for 2 weeks now. Deej took me all the way to the Rotunda, but I barely got a bus and walked to my Grady normal bus stop where she picked me up. Deej made delicious lamb kabobs - Arooq- with potato and beens. Got my last of my laundry done - about 15 long-sleeve shirts, even though my late, late collecting them from the dryer and putting them on hangers disturbed Deej's sleep. Copied most Hauser fest folks in on a Google Photo collection of photos.

I recall that there is a song I love "Namestae"
    It's by Forest Tobey who was a music teacher at Woodstock in the ? 1970s or 80s and wrote a suite called Off Chants - Sketches of India with 10 pieces or tracks. Some were very clearly Indian, almost all were influenced or combined elements of Indian music and Western music.  The last one was called "Namestee" Let's see if I can load it here for others to hear. Whoops! start of another work week 2018 Nov 12-13

 Ok – what a start of a week. Lunch with the boss, Library Dean John Unsworth, and 7 other librarians, at his Pavilion 2 house on the Lawn, very formal (Pearl Island (Caribbean) catering), served appetizers, salad, beef with potatoes, mushrooms, and carrots, and for desert - raspberry truffles and sorbet, with much awkward conversation, but not from me, except my comment on Thanksgiving – "we ate pea hen (peacock hen) for Thanksgiving in India." (huh?)  From 12 – 1:30 pm Monday, walking over and back in the rain. I printed and took two of my colored photos with John in them and gave to him – T-Shirt 2018 and Halloween at his Pavilion 2017. The other librarians were Winston Barham, Amanda Visconti, Anthony Lindsay, Sean McCord, Mark Witteman, Hanni Nabahe, Biao Sun, Robert D Smith, Phylissa Mitchel, John Unsworth.

      Then Tuesday was a real doozy – under my new heated blanket, I drove and parked at Grady Ave, starting to run to catch the bus, but went right back and pulled the blanket plug which was still lighted even with the engine off, and then saw buses coming and ran to get the Outer Loop, which the regular driver kindly waited an extra 25 seconds for me.

      Main problem for the day – my old belt ripped right in two and I couldn’t figure out a good substitute – tried string (too puny) and settled on a computer cord, still not great. Mainly had to hold up my pants with one hand to go to lunch, and especially all the half-hour afternoon walk, which was hard and tiring, had to switch hands every 10 minutes.

     Spent about 20 minutes in the morning talking to Judy in Acquisitions about the 5 titles which the South Asian professor requested Sunday – showing her his email, my Worldcat listing, my reply to books’ editor, her response, my searching and finding 4 of the 5 titles for under $20, but one at $212!, so tried and got India Exotica for $95. Sent it all in an email, which Judy will ask Beth about and try to order, process.

    Continued to work on cataloging some other South Asia titles. And tried to connect the duo plug, unsuccessful.

      Left work at 5 (earlier than usual) and went to the Old Navy store and bought a $20 belt. Clerks should not confuse dyslexic people like me and ask “Credit or debit” Hmm what’s the difference, and I thought debit, then realized credit, after she had put in debit for my card and then had a hard time cancelling it! Finally got the receipt, but she had put the belt aside – what?! So I said, might I have the belt? – oh, flustered she said and put it in a bag.

    At the Bed Bath and Beyond, found a wonderful anti-splatter microwave cover, and a nice spoon, and a great dark blue bath towel (Deej – why did you get that?), but could not find any decent 24-ounce glass glasses. I was intrigued though, that they had a simple set of light switch and plug for $90
which would automatically turn on and voice controlled – neat. But not today. Checking out those three things, the spoon kept jumping around on the counter, so the clerk had to grab it and put it in the bag. Didn’t want to leave the store?

     At home, I found there were more Amazon packages – my new blue-tooth radio clock, another India book, and a silent wall clock. I set up the wall clock and Deej eventually saw it and liked it. We've been going crazy for the last 5 years with a wall clock going tick, tick, tic, tic, . . . Ah, silence. Also charged the radio clock and put the book in my bag to take to work and donate to the library.

    Also at home, the old outdoor’s indoor unit is giving off alarms without us know why, so we take out batteries.

     And, oh, yes, replaced the outdoor Netatmo batteries once again.  How long will it last?

     The other thing at home is our plumbing, it is giving us problems again, gurgling, backing up. What to do? Get them to clean it out again ($200) or see about digging up and replacing the pipe ($2000 +)

     Ah, the little things in life – nice to have a belt and secure pants – and a beautiful silent wall clock in the kitchen.  And great meals in the evening from Deej – the turkey arok and her home made creamy mac and cheese.
